The Best CBD Tea Recipe for a Restful Nights Sleep

Posted by Zara on 3rd Feb 2023

There are many ways to make CBD tea, including:

  • using ready-made teabags
  • using ready-made powders
  • adding CBD oil to hot water/tea (Oil and Water don't mix.)  This method requires the addition of a "fatty source" for the oil to bind with, otherwise it will just sit on top of the water.

AND MY FAVORITE - Brewing the tea using the Hemp CBD Flower

All Natural

CBD is one of the many cannibinoids that naturally occur in the hemp plant.  Brewing tea using the flower results in an all-natural cup of tea that includes all the goodness of the full-spectrum compounds from the CBD Flower. Full-spectrum compounds present in the flower include other beneficial cannibinoids, favonoids and terpenes.

Also, raw Hemp CBD Flower does not go through a chemical extraction process, like CBD Oil does, or a restructuring process to create a powder.  The raw flower does not contain any additional supplements, like added Melatonin.

Benefits of CBD Tea

First, if you use a lab-tested Flower, there is no THC in this method, so you will not get high

The effect of this brew method is subtle, gentle and mild.  In my experience, it does not impact normal functioning.  Of course, this will vary from person to person.  If you are concerned about the effects, start with a weaker tea and see how it makes you feel.  You can always make the tea stronger, if desired.

I use the tea to support better sleep.  I typically drink it about 3 hours before I plan to go to bed.  I go about my usual end of day routine without any noticeable effect.  Consuming CBD as a tea means you can expect to feel the effects between 45 minutes to 2 hours after consuming the beverage.

I find I fall asleep faster and stay asleep.  My sleep tracker typically records 90% sleep quality (or better), with very little movement when I drink my tea.  I wake up refreshed and I do not experience any feelings of being hung-over or spaced-out the next morning.

Recipe for CBD Flower Tea

  1. Start with a High-CBD Hemp Flower that has a smooth taste, (like Grace Note's Cherry Blossom Flower) about a gram per cup of tea.
  2. Heat is needed to "activate" the CBD and other cannabinoids from the flower, so when ingested, the body can readily absorb the compounds.
  • The best way to do this is to break the flower into "tea leaf-sized pieces" on a cookie sheet covered by parchment paper.  Remove any stems or seeds and throw them away.
  • Put the cookie sheet in a 235 degree oven for about 20 - 25 minutes.  You don't want to brown or crisp the flower, so be careful to not overcook.   If you make more than you need, store it away from heat and sunlight in a glass jar.teasize-flower-1-.jpg
  • Use a tea diffuser to add the activated flower to your teacup or mug.
  • It's important to always use hot water.  Bring water to boil in kettle or pot.
  • Add hot water to cup with tea diffuser and allow to steep for at least 5 minutes.

Palate-Pleasing Additions

Unflavored CBD tea has a grassy taste.  While not unpleasant, it benefits greatly from the addition of other flavors.  You can add your favorite tea, honey and other flavors to your brew for an improved taste profile.

CBD Hot Chocolate or Cocoa - Using this method, you can also add a powdered hot chocolate/cocoa mix to your CBD Tea and enjoy it as a chocolate drink.
